About the Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore boasts one of the more interesting histories in the league. Though the Ravens franchise was founded in 1996, the Ravens were formerly the Cleveland Browns -- but as a condition of relocation, the Ravens were forced to leave the Browns' history in Cleveland, essentially making the Ravens an expansion franchise in terms of history.

It didn't take long for the Ravens to find success. In just the team's fifth season, the Ravens finished 12-4, and went on to defeat the New York Giants in the Super Bowl -- thanks in large part to an historically good defense anchored by Ray Lewis.

Baltimore once again became an elite team in the NFC in 2008, when the team hired John Harbaugh to be its head coach. Between 2008 and 2012, the Ravens made five consecutive trips to the playoffs -- and won the Super Bowl in 2012.
